Zinc anodes are primarily used for applications in seawater and brackish water. They are suitable for use in brackish water if the resistivity is below approximately 1.5 Ωm. Zinc is chemically more stable than aluminum, making it the preferred choice in environments with poor conductivity, such as brackish water.
The term "zinc" has become synonymous with sacrificial anodes, as zinc was the original material used for this purpose. However, other metals such as aluminum and magnesium are also effectively used as sacrificial anodes.
